THE NEST
Byblos, one of the most important touristic attractions in the region, was once house for Phoenicians, a culture that opened new boundaries with its discoveries, especially in what is related to sailing and sea travelling. These discoveries led today to many generations of Lebanese diaspora that were never introduced to their country of origin.
Today, this city was selected as one of 100 Resilient cities around the world, encouraging tourism and economy in face of all threats. In order to reach that, it must empower its image as a safe touristic center for the region and the world: it should play the role of a nest, a nest for tourists, for diaspora, and for everyone interested in our culture.
The Nest would be an exchange cultural center, where immigrants with Lebanese roots will be collected reunited from all over the world, introduced to our culture from history to language and food, and where interested people could search for their Lebanese ancestors and families all over the country. This project will not only be opened to diaspora, but also to locals, where cultural exchange will take place on every level. And to reach all of these goals, the project will be divided into exhibition spaces, library, ancestors room, classrooms and interactive restaurants, with a multipurpose room and an opened space connected to the archaeological site on the southern edge, hoping that this connection would be the gate to cultural exchange and to a long journey in the old streets of the city and its culture and history.
